Kaká returns, same old Milan..
By: Moka | September 14th, 2008That’s 2 losses in 2 games. Except this time, Genoa fully deserved the win and 2-0 is a rather accurate representation of how the game went. Milan started off with Kaká, Dinho, Sheva up in front, the latter two, were subbed off in the 2nd half, unsurprisingly. Seedorf and Borriello came on, and there were real chances on goal in the 2nd half. It could have easily been 1-1, thanks to Pato, but he was denied by the Genoa goalkeeper.
I don’t want to analyze the whole game and what went wrong, for example, in defense. I think it’s best if we left general Milan talk to the Milan offside. I’ll briefly talk about what went wrong in offense.
In the first half, the offense played terrible. Simply that. Kaká was the only promising player, and he had the only real chance, on a counter-attack, through one of his trademark runs, which he poorly finished. That aside, every time he got the ball, he was fouled and for a second, it seemed like he hurt his left knee again, but he played it off. I can’t remember any plays between him and Dinho or Sheva, which is an indicator that they both might be past their best, leaving the bulk of the responsibility on Kaká’s shoulder. Aside from that trademark run, there was nothing worth mentioning in the first half.
The second half saw the introduction of Seedorf and Borriello, and the latter had a couple of chances early on. Pato entered the fray later on, and there was a nice link-up between him and Kaká, but, again, to no result. At that point, I lost interest in what was happening. The only event worth mentioning was a yellow card shown to Kaká for diving in the penalty box. In my opinion, I don’t think it was a dive, but it wasn’t worthy of a penalty kick either; to me it just seemed as if he tripped himself.
So, terrible performance by Milan. Nothing special by Kaká. Personally, I’d give him a 6/10, for his effort and determination. Goal.com gave him a 6.5/10, claiming he was Milan’s best outfield player. I concur.
